The simplest method for an otherwise straightforward document is to use a
calculated field in the header/footer eg

{ IF { Page } > 9 "{ ={ Page } - 9 }" }

Hello.
Using Word 97.

I would like to begin to numerote my document at page 10 (for exemple)
so the 9 first page without numero and page 10 is numeroted as page 1 and
so...

do you think it is possible.

Best Regards.
Ahmed.

Hi Ahmad,

I am sorry to disagree with Graham but the easiest way to start and control
page numbering is through the use of section breaks.

1. Go to the page before you want the page number to start and enter a
contiuous section break.
2. Then on the next page open Headers and footers. and :
a. deselect link to previous.
b. select page numbering.

Jim

For the general principles, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NumberingFrontMatter.htm. Note that to
have *no* numbering in the first section, you must unlink Section 2 from
Section 1 (by clicking on the Same as Previous button on the Header and
Footer toolbar, to turn it off) before inserting the page number in the
Section 2 header/footer, leaving the Section 1 header/footer blank.

I agree with Jim - use the section breaks, then insert page numbers and you
can tell it to start at 1

Whether or not you agree is a matter for you, but for a *simple* document,
the conditional field does not require the extra complication of section
breaks.

The "simple" document would have to be one that does not require a TOC or
index, since both report the results of the { PAGE } field rather than the
calculated page number displayed.
