Retain header Remove page number on first page

Students need the ability to keep the header containing their name, class
period, and date on the first page of a Word 2007 document, but also need the
ability to remove the page number from the first page to adhere to teacher
instructions. In Word 2003, the ability existed to check Do Not Show Page
Number on first page by using the insert page number function rather than the
header/footer function. In Word 2007, the only way I have found is to select
Different first page, but that removes the header as well as the footer. Does
that ability exist in Word 2007? If so, how?

See Word Help using the keword search: suppress page number, then go to the
section on "Remove the page number from the first page". It explains better
than I can reword:-}

The "Different first page" option is the one you need. And you are right; it
does affect headers and footers. To restore the old header, just copy the
main header from page 2 and paste it into the first page header.
