Hello out there! Having just lost everything on C drive
because I stupidly did not perform a back up, um, just
how do I do a backup of my hard drive. Someone told me
to go to All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup,
but backup ain't there. I have Windows XP on an
Emachines PC, and I would like to backup to a CD-R disc.
Is that possible? I gues this is kinda like shutting the
barn door after the horse has gotten out, run on the
highway, got hit by an 18-wheeler & buried, but it would
be nice to avoid this in the future! Also, now that
everything is brand-new again, whenever I go into Yahoo
or Ebay, I get a Flash Player Debug Console warning,
whatever the hell THAT is! I've gone in to IE>internet
options & disabled the script thingie, but it still keeps
popping up! Any way to disable? Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately XP doesn't have a good disk backup program.
You need to acquire a 3rd party partition manager, such as Partition magic,
BootIt NG, or Norton's Ghost.
You can then create a bootable mirror image of C: drive on another partition
or hard drive.
With the price of hard drives as low as they are now, that would be the best
way to go.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on
XP Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the
CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by
doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at

Sorry, no. Not with the included Windows program. You need a
third-party backup utility to do that.

The one thing to keep in mind is, even though the backup will work in WinXP
home, the restore part of the program doesn't.

So what good is it ?
