How to avoid Outlook Express self-installation

I have set my email as Yahoo email in the IE internet options screen.
However when I click on a web link such as "mailto:[email protected]" Express
keeps trying to install itself.

Can anyone tell me how to disable it? I never use OE. I'm competent to
edit my registry.
 
DBL check your settings in IE Internet options to make sure they were saved.
Also, check in Outlook Express. Tools>Options>Default Messaging Programs
for "Default Mail Handler".

If not right, must be registry not acknowledging change.

There is also a outlook express news group
