How to automatically restart a crashed program

Hi,

I use VLC as my media player. Once in a while it crashes (the program,
not the computer).

Is there any freeware available out there which would detect when a
program crashes and would restart it (just the program, not the
computer) automatically?

Thanks,

Jadran

I use VLC on my 2000Pro computer and haven't had any problems with it.
What OS are you using it on and do you have another media player? Maybe
there is a conflict? I have WMP (an older version) on the 2000Pro
machine
but it doesn't interfere with VLC. I haven't had a crash with it.

From a technical point of view, how should this be pulled off? You may
find something that detects that vlc.exe dies and restarts it. But so
what? If VLC plays a movie or whatever, keels over and dies and gets
restarted, it takes a very intelligent application (or one specifically
written for VLC) to know excactly what it was playing, at what settings
(Windows size, full screen etc) and how far it had progressed.

Besides, I think you are solving this the wrong way. I use VLC all the
time on multiple machines and under multiple OSs (XP, Linux, Mac) and I
really can't remember it crashing on me. Ever. So you should really look
into what is causing the crashes. Maybe you have hardware issues. If so,
these should be diagnosed and solved. Maybe you have faulty drivers.
Maybe you should upgrade your video drivers or DirectX or something. It
may even be a problem with VLC. If so, try to submit a bug report, and
they may make it work for the next version. Or, if all else fails, try
another program. Media Player Classic is good, and if VLC does not work
for you maybe this will.
