How to activate USB port?

I know next to nothing about troubleshooting computers; however, I am trying
to fix a problem for my mother-in-law. There is no "human interface" or
"USB" listed in her peripherals. I believe her printer is not working
because the USB port is not activated (I was able to install and get the
printer to work on another machine).

How do you activate the USB port?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is probably disabled in the BIOS. You'll have to read the manual for the
computer or motherboard to find out how to enable it. Be careful what you
change in the BIOS. If you change the wrong settings the computer may not
work properly. Note any changes you make so you can reverse them.
