How to activate the CDKey

Dear All,
I bought a IBM notebook which pre-install a windows xp
professional with a legal CDKey that is leballed at the
buttom of my notebook. However, when I upgrade my notebook
to sp2 even sp1, the system told me that my CDKey is
Illegal. Now, how can I activate my legal CDKey? Thanks
for your help!
