As they say, you are free to cancel the agreement. ;-)

<sigh> If you go read the little debate I just had with my friend,
Leythos, it will save us a lot of time.

I've done my whinin' for the day, and now it's up to others to carry
on...which they will...I have great faith.

There are a lot of compromises in life, but after this computer dies,
I'm quite likely to go back to a Mac. Although I first found maintaining
it (and learning new things) to be entertaining, it is starting to wear
on me. Except for a few limited instances, I've never had to deal with
Windows outside a professional environment, and I never had any idea
what a pain in the touchis it is to keep it running well.

It's not supposed to be this hard. Computers were supposed to give us
more leisure time, but instead they've taken over our lives.

I also, do mostly reading these days in these forums, rather than posting. I
must say, this thread , along with the other WGA thread, has certainly
caught my attention, and Rhonda you have
made an excellent argument on this issue, and I would have to side with you
on this one.

I had not given a lot of thought to these " wga" updates, but now, I find
myself more concerned about them.

Yes, I read your exchange, hence the ;-). And yes, in the "rush" to use
a computer for everything, we seem to have overlooked the true cost of
reality. So now we have exploits, spam, and WGA, reality is here extract
it's due.

A well balanced and lucid argument - in all threads.

I thank you, but really, I was being a brat. ;)
I enjoyed your contribution - thank you.
I said similar back in April, here -

http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=444&SiteID=25

How do I find your post? I tried, but I don't really know what to
search, and it didn't show me anything for the user name you use here.
have you written your piece here?

No, because all the brattiness went out of me when I submitted
wgatray.exe to WindowsDefender as spyware, not to mention that I'll have
to rewrite the entire thing as an essay.

That's work, Antioch! :)

But maybe tomorrow. I have a whole long list of things I said I was
going to do to Microsoft, and none of them are done, and this is just
one more.

I'm turning Bill Gates into a cause, and in many ways, I actually admire
the man a great deal. It's frustrating and confusing, even to me.

Well, I just went to Windows Update and, lo and behold, WGA IV is now
available for downloading.

This is really getting ridiculous.

Agreed!

It seems update no longer does any updating unless you let MS have their
way with your comp, your info and your life. I agreed to the last one
which went through with no problem. But I'll be damned if I'll continue
with this *shake down*! So of course I didn't agree this time and I
haven't seen any update notices since? Forcing the issue shows KB892130
as being the *only* available update?... Say what?? ... Well ... if
covering their fat wallets that firmly sits on their fat asses is *their
only concern* with this leaky OS then they have lost a long standing
customer! I have used and *paid for* MS software since DOS days but this
is overboard, intrusive, insulting and finally enough!

Linux is looking better and better in *so many ways*.

I missed that. Sorry. I was loaded for bear. :)

We also have people hanging out on usenet posting their lives away.
<laughing> Pretty soon we'll all have implants and we'll stay jacked in
24/7.

When I first started working as a paralegal, a lot was still being done
on typewriters. For the most part, it was a 9 to 5 day, except for all
the extra time I spent getting acquainted with the brand new Xerox
820-II.

Now we have very zippy computers with many time-saving programs, and
most of us start the day at 7 am and end at midnight.

Okay, I'm exaggerating...but not very much.

its all deaf ears in the newsgroups.
Join the ever growing numbers of dissatisfied MS users.
And you will be answered.
Give them hell

You gotta sign into Passport or Hotmail to post there. I don't have a
Passport account or a Hotmail account and never plan to have one.

If you don't think they read this newsgroup, you're mistaken.

I've managed to have only KB892130. What happens if I don't download

If you do not install KB892130 you will NOT be assimilated! You MUST comply.

That's no excuse - want to use mine????? :-) :-)
I didn't say they don't read it - I said its all deaf ears in the
newsgroup - they may read it but do not want to hear and certainly not
reply.
Take care Alias - and please read posts with care - you know how often
certain persons accuse you of misquoting ;-) ;-)
Anyway, I quite like reading all the complaints and the replies from the
MS-speak person. Sounds a bit like someone you know well.

P.S.
I still have WGA blocked by my firewall - have there been any updates in the
last week - in particular security ones - I have just the one - WGA showing
for download.

Actually, I just found out that one only need make up a user name so you
will see me there as IamAlias. "Alias" was already taken :-)

It would be a very useful service if someone who has been assimilated by
the Borg let the few remaining un-assimilated ones know if there are any
truly critical updates. I have only d/l'ed the WGA Validation Tool
(KB892130), and not any of the "Notification" ones (which, BTW,
confirmed that I do have a "genuine" installation). When I manually go
to WU now, it only shows one critical update -- WGA Notification.

I suppose I can just wait for patch Tuesday and see what happens, but it
would be nice to know ...

<laughing> Wouldn't that be nice?

But I don't think anyone ever gets too old to be a brat. Even so, that
wasn't quite the right word. It just put a huge burr under my saddle
when I caught WGA loading itself on startup and trying to phone home.

You mean, "I wish you'd get your butt in gear, you lazy slug"? ;)

Okay...sometime today, I'll write that post. Really. And I'll look for
yours.

Antioch and Damascus. I should've guessed.

I am never called a brat - grumpy grandpa in general.
If you want a little giggle, and I hope he misses this, but look out for
IamAlias in the gripe forum.
I thought they were already there - someone pinched the 'handle' :-) :-) :-)

Very quickly I should think - perhaps a 'handle' less obvious might have
given you a chance.
I have seen you have been busy already - and Old Grumpy is in there as
well???
Some are clipped/censored - and they trim.clip their replies, suggesting
that remarks 'did not have any substance to original comments'
I hope they are paying Mr Liu a good wack - he certainly is earning it.
