IIS (World Wide Web Service) Not Starting after installing SP2!!!!

J

Jodie Rapson

Well basically I was sceptical about a smooth update and lo and behold I
have installed XP Service pack 2 and now World Wide Web Services is hanging
on startup, I am a web developer and this is quite annoying as I can't do
any ASP.NET stuff on my local machine.

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

Jodie

I've had the same problem and so have many others on here, but there have
been no posts from MS that answer the question. Do a search for IIS and SP2
and see the other threads of people with the same problems and notice the
lack of answers. Hmm...

Thanks for feedback guys. I found one article on MS that suggested iis might
not work, but no suggestions on what to do about it. Oh well I'll wait for
the hotfixes. Funnily enough though now that I have uninstalled SP2,
everything is functioning perfectly except Internet Connection Sharing, so
have no idea what the story is there, but it is bloody annoying, any ideas.

Cheers

Until today, I was having the same problem after I installed SP2. To resolve
this issue, I did the following:

1) Put down the Norton firewall
2) Open the Internet Explorer and keep on trying to connect to
http://localhost/website
3) After doing step 2 a few times, I was able to access my website and IIS
was working
4) Go to Control Panel > Administrative tools > Internet Information Services
5) Right click on the computer name and go to "All Tasks" and click on
"Restart IIS..."
6) Norton firewal will prompt you to block or permit the connection to IIS.
Permit the connection.
7) This also resolved the slow boot up...of course
