How many computers can install Vista

I have a laptop computer and a desktop computer at home that I would like to
install Vista. Can I buy one Vista Ultimate and install it on both comuters?
Would I need to buy two licences? What if I build another computer for home
use, can I install it on three computers at my house? What are the rules?

With your one copy of Vista, you can install it on any number of computers.
If you have 50 computers at home, you can install it on 50 computers. But
that will only work for 30 days. After that you must ACTIVATE your copies
and that means a valid license must go with EACH copy. So with the above
scenerio, only one copy will work, the other 49 will not.

Microsoft doesn't give their OS away any more :)

I have installed my $400 OS one one computer. Now I install it on a second
computer. So how much is the activation for the second computer?

there is a special offer for ultimate retail vista (I think)

if you get one copy you can get 2 more for 50 dollars each....

it seems like a good offer for a home with 3 computers...

I am wondering if you can resell one of those 2 extra liscences if you dont
need them

somebody else here might fill in the details...

If you are in the US there is something about a family pack where you can
get more licenses for a smaller fee. Look around the newsgroup for more
information and links.

the same! how do you think bill gates wants to become richer? lol

( I would personally get an OEM if the pc is new-ish)

There is an announced program to offer up to 2 Home Premium licenses for $50
each with the purchase of one Ultimate. Search the previous messages for
"family" for details. I don't believe the redemption site is active yet.

but can you sell one of those if you dont need it?
Or are you somehow enslaved with them forever? lol

You will have to buy a Vista edition for each.

The rules are that every computer you have or someone close to you that you
might buy it for has is going to require its own Vista. It's that clear.

That's two licenses. However you may want to take advantage of the Family
Value deal and it's here but Nick hasn't defined whether upgrades figure
into the picuture as to the Home Premium and needs to:

This is from Nick White, Product Manager on the Windows
Marketing Communications team (and it needs more definition as to which Home
Premium full or upgrade)

Do you get upgrade VHP? I'm guessing after many years of MSFT watching that
it's upgrade for $49. Generous isn't a word I'd use to describe this
company. It ain't the Gates foundation with a mega superfetch and ready
boost from Warren Buffett.

This is all clearly explained at www.microsoft.com/windowsvista

Enjoy.

About $20 less than what you paid for the first license. You might as well
buy a second copy of Vista. That way you can shop around.

It sounds like you bought Ultimate so you can also buy a family plan copy of
Vista Home Premium from the Anytime Upgrade site for $49.95. It is an
upgrade edition product key, not full, even though you bought an Ultimate
full edition. You may buy two such licenses. The family plan does not
offer a discounted Ultimate, only VHP. If you go this route all you need is
the VHP product key, you already have the dvd.

Sorry, I'm having real heartburn with the price of Vista as it is.
However, the "Family" lisence sounds OK. $49 for a license? Not too bad,
actually, when you figure what they wanted for a lisence for NT!
