how doyou change someone's email address?!!

drdug

I am trying to change someone's primary email address in outlook and I can't figure out how to do it. I can add the new address, but I can find nowhere that it will let me change the one that's already there. This is the reason I usually use Outlook Express.
I went into Contacts, selected the person and there is only a drop down for email 1 email 2. etc., and on the right there is a little notebook icon that takes me to the select contacts box. When I select the person whose email address I want to change, it has 2 fields: display name, and email which it will not let me change.
I'm usually pretty good at figuring out programs but Outlook just wears me out. It is soo irritating to use, but sometimes I need the extra things it is able to do, plus the PPC forces me to use it if I want to sync.
TIA

What version of Outlook are you using?

Dollars to donuts (that used to be 10:1 but not anymore) you're using XP or 2003. The problem that you're experiencing is somewhat common if not well documented. The "Display As" field in your contact folder is a dynamically populated field. Let me guess, the e-mail address that is showing up there is one that you once sent an e-mail to?

That data is being populated from the NK2 aka autocomplete file. That's why when you export the contact folder, the display as data doesn't export.

You may wish to review the following link: http://www.dcs-imaging.com/autocompletetips.htm

Hopefully that will provide some insight about what is going on.

Randy, don't reply about a subject you obviously don't understand. The
Display As field has absolutely NOTHING to wo with the autocompletion cache
(the NK2 file you mention).

Add it where? Change it where? DO you mean the address of the account you
want to use to send a message or the address of one of your recipients? If
the former, change it in the account properties. For the latter change it
in the Contacts record for that person.

For an existing contact, choose the e-mail field containing the old address
using the drop-down (E-mail, E-mail 2, E-mail 3) and then double-click the
address in the field to the right of the drop down. You'll get a dialogue
box in which you can specify the display name and the new address. Change
the address there. Click OK. Don't click the address book icon at the far
right. Click Save and Close. The address has now been changed.
and on the right there is a little
notebook icon that takes me to the select contacts box.

Why do you think this is relevant? It's not. Don't click it.
