Chris

I have a geforce 4 ti4400 128 meg version video card. I am going to upgrade
to a radeon 9800 pro. Will I get significant framerate improvements in games
such as Battlefield, Halo etc which require a fast machine (btw i have p4
2.6ghz with 1 gig pc3200 ram). Also what does my ti4400 compare to? Would it
be about the same power of a 9600 xt? Or the same power as a 9200? Thanks
for all the help ^^

I went from ti4600 128 to 9700pro and gained in flightsim. I went from there
to 9800 pro256 and of course gained there. I would think you would be happy
going to 9800pro.
no idea what the comparison you asked for would be.

It's a lot faster than an ATI 9200, a fair bit slower plus lacking dx9
support in comparison to the 9600xt (of course avoid all SE models), and
doesn't even compare to the 9800pro. Excellent deal on the 9800pro at
ncix.com this week's sale:

Personally, I don't think it's worth the expense of an upgrade for any less
than the 9800pro. Note that that is a Canadian site.

you`re going from a fast DX8 card to a fast DX9 card. DX9 is quite
different to DX8, not just an update like other versions of DX. The actual
clock speeds of the cards won`t be too far apart but in terms of raw
processing power the GF4 can`t touch the radeon. Lovely card if you can
afford it. I use a 9600XT and get about 25-30fps in Halo using pixel shader
2.0. your GF4 uses pixel shader 1.1 so it will give high scores in a
benchmark. Try your 9800pro in shader 1.1 mode and it will maybe treble what
you GF4 gets.

Sunbow - what does your 9600xt benchmark when using
1.1 shaders. could you run the halo timedemo with both --use20 and -use11
for comparison ?
