How Does All This Work?

I was recommended to use FrontPage for my website. I was told it was very easy to use, and the box itself says it is easy to use. I prepared myself by reading MS Office Frontpage online tutorial..... but for the life of me, I don't even know where to begin! There are no template choices, there is nothing that tells you what the first step is once you open up Frontpage. By all appearances on the box and from recommendations, it seemed like it would be a step by step thing, but I keep reading instructions that go around in circles with no real starting point. HELLLP!!!!!

Get yer feet wet...time to jump in...it won't blow up.

File/NewWeb/,,,, now New Web From Template (on the right side of page) choose a template play around with it.

If you want to save it...save it to your local machine first...usually they are stored in My Webs.

box though.

This is incredibly frustrating!!!!!! I keep trying to just "jump in", but no matter what I do, it leads to nowhere. Nothing intelligible happens, and what does happen gets stuck on my screen and I can't get it off. Things are getting saved that I didn't even click "save" for. Why aren't there any instructions with the package?..... why aren't there any instructions in the software?..... why can't you just put a template up there and start typing in what you want on your website?...... why did I spend $200 on this if what I really needed was a two year technical degree? All I want is step by step instructions, not "jump in and get your feet wet." That's just bringing me round and round in circles.

the local library and picked out a stack of books about
front page and web publishing. then i started reading and
practicing. it takes time, it can be frustrating, but

Well, why don't you explain what you HAVE done so we can steer you in the right direction. Clicking on Help usually brings up an extensive Help Manual, at least on my FP it does. What is not listed there is on MS's website or here, or a gaggle of other sites with tutorials...do a google search to find some of them.

BUT...start from the beginning....tell us what you have done so far...step by step, maybe we can help.

Although it won't get you everywhere you may want to go, I recommend
Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Step by Step (Microsoft Press). It comes
with a CD that has files you use to work your way through the tutorials.
When you finish the tutorials, you still won't really *know* anything, but
you'll have been exposed to a lot of the nifty features and basic
operations, and you have the book as a reference to guide you when you start
to create your own Web site.

Have you considered reading a book on the subject. It's generally more useful than whining.

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was whining.... I was just frustrated at buying an expensive product that didn't have any instructions on how to use it

I thank all of you for your input, and I have taken it all in. I have gone to the book store andlooked through several books on FrontPage. While I am deciding which book to spend the money on, I will study the online tutorials (that a number of you so graciously sent links for) more closely. I guess I'll follow the crowd, and jump in and sink or swim - LOL

That's the spirit.

BTW, I bought a really cool sports car a few years ago...and dang if it didn't come with instructions either.

The fact is these days MOST computer programs do NOT come with a paper instruction manual, and the ones that do have one it's usually worthless...all the real stuff is online. Online is much better than paper because it's up to date. And the newsgroup (like this one) is the best resource ever.
