How do you restore a hidden partition?

I have been able to reinstall XP Pro onto a separate partition on a drive
that already had several other partitions. Now when I click My Computer I
find that one major partition is missing. I know for a fact that the
partition is there because before I did the reinstall I had made a Boot
Magic disk by using Partition Magic 8, also it obvious that the sizes of the
displayed partitions only add up 42GB short of the disk drives capacity.

The Boot Magic disk displays the missing partition & shows the partition as
being marked as hidden & inactive. This disk allows me to change this so
that it's no longer hidden & is marked active. But when I reboot nothing
has changed & I end up exactly where I started & the partition is still
missing. I don't know if the hidden partition has an operating system on it
or not but I suspect that it has. I have gotten myself thoroughly confused
since I have several swapable drives in cradles & each of these has several
partitions on them . (I have so many drives because I do video editing.)

I have also looked at the BIOS , something that I know very little about &
I was surprised to find listed under boot sequence what appears to me to be
to be more a description of my CR ROM drive rather than my Hard drives.
Once again I took the chance to change the sequence for boot up & assuming
that I did this correctly nothing changed here either once I rebooted.

I suspect that getting this partition displayed somehow revolves around the
settings, concerning, active/hidden, primary or logical/, boot sequence,
master/slave,jumper settings etc. but I have no idea as to where to start.
Any ideas?

Can you assign a drive letter to the [hidden] partition using Disk
Management (diskmgmt.msc)?
