How Do You Put Music On Your Site

I know how to go to page properties>background>background sound, my issue is
that when I browse to the folder of the songs I want, they are not there.
But, they are on the computer and they are in musicmatch. So my question is,
how do I get the music to put on my site? Is there some type of Add-in I
need to download? Also, what music files does Frontpage 2002 support? My
music files are .mp3, is that a problem? Someone Help Please!!!

You must Import the sound files into FP, they must be within the Web before you link to them.

Don't, unless you want to put off potential visitors. Unless a site is
specifically a music site, then keep it off..! I *hate* background music
and will actively *not* visit any site again if it plays any.

so if i understand u correctly, i need to import it into FP, then create a
link to access the music, is that correct?

Does the music play only when a visitor clicks on a link to make it do so,
or does it play in the background regardless..? The former is acceptable,
the latter is not.

I don't know the mp3 format is supported by the "bgsound" feature. I think its
limited to midi and wav files.


Did you import the sound files into the web? do you have a web open?

You are correct, FP does not support .mp3, I had to convert the music files
to .wav to get them to work.

I tried to create a link for the music, but it doesn't work. Can you provide
me with a liitle more info on how to properly create a music link?

fp does indeed support mp3 files for background sound. you
have to manually type in the name of the file. i'm not
sure why everyone thinks the files need to be imported
into a web. i just go to windows explorer and drag them
over to a directory in the web. seems to work ok.

Can you kinda explain to me how to do that. Once I imported the files to
..wav I was able to add the background music. Do you know how to put music on
the site, like for example, I want to put a list where people can choose to
listen to certain songs, like click on a certain song to listen to, is that
something you can help me with. I was told I had to create a link for them,
do you know how to do that?

bg music/sound only works with .wav or .midi's - this is done in code or right click on your page and go to Page Properties and you'll see where you insert/browse to, the sound file link.

Importing & drag/drop work the same way, FP will keep info on where the file is. We probably say Import it more than drag/drop because it's easier to explain and do. Also I have nasty habit of dropping things in the wrong place :)

Drag/drop them into the current open web is the same as using the File Menu | Import command.

Hi Onetwenty,
There was a site you could have looked at... but the group split and
soon after the web site was dismantled.
However since I was the one who put the page together where the CD's
were listed, plus the tracks, and 30 - 40 secs samples of them all, I
still have that page on the PC at home - I can load it up to my ISP's
free web space and let you have a look and listen.
I very much doubt they'd object ~ though might drop 'em a quick hello
just to be sure~
So give me a day ot two - and I'll let you know when it's up to view.

1. Drag/drop the .midi file into a folder on your pc (e.g. My Music)
2. Go to the page where you want the background music to be put in
and...Format -> Background -> General -> Browse... -> Upload file from "My
Music" folder -> OK

I would suggest that .midi files are the best for music since their size is
the smallest.

You can even use these .midi files on ebay but you must publish them to your
website first and then reference them to your site in ebays HTML code area.

You need to drag/drop the file into the current open FP web, if you want to use the file in the
current web.
