How do you edit an existing title when you're editing a .wmv?

I'm using moviemaker 2.1.4026.0

I can't edit existing titles I have created, and it is a bother to have
create a new title each time.

This is when I go to edit an existing .wmv movie I have made and I have used
the import video selection to reload an existing .wmv.

I am following the directions of placing the title on the storyboard,
selecting that title frame - it is highlighted - but then when I click the
edit menu - the Edit Title choice is grayed out and not active.

CAN YOU create a .wmv and then reload it and edit the titles ?

Try re-editing your .mswmm project file.

Like John said.
You need to load the "project file" (MSWMM) and edit it there.
Once you render a project into a WMV or AVI it no longer has editable titles
since they are now part of the actual video file.

Yes, you should open your initial file and work from there. If you are trying
to open or fix the titles from the finalized movie. wmv file that wont be
possible. I always hold off on saving my projects to movies because that is
the final step and cant be altered.

Personally I save my projects to movies frequently during the process just
to
check the true quality of the project but I still save the project itself
for further
editing. I have project files that are 6-8 months old, they take up little
space
so it makes sense to save them for future use.
