How do you choose default programs?

I made the mistake of opening the Nero media player. It worked, just as I
had hoped. It also decided to make itself my default CD player. This
involves being the program that runs when I click on "Play". It also
changed all the icons on my music files to the Nero icon.

I did not want it to do this. I want my default player to be the windows
player that came with WindowsXP. How do I change it back so that the
default player is the Windows Media Player and the icons are returned to the
ones appropriate for WMP?

I know I could use System Restore, but in this case, it would cause a lot of
undesirable changes along with the desired change.

Second question: What is the general way of specifying a default program?

Thanks for your time,

To change the default program that opens a particular file type, just right
click on the file and click "open with" and "choose program". Find the
application you want to use and make sure to check the box "Always use the
selected program to open this type of file".

Same answer to both questions. Right-click on any file of the time you want
to assign a default program to and choose "Open With." Select the program
you want from the list, check the box "Always use this program..." and click
OK,

Perfect. Thank you both. You know, I should have been able to figure this
out myself. One of these days I'll get a grip on this sort of thing. :)

Thanks again,
