how do i unlock an excel document

i can edit excel from other computers in the office but for some reason it
will not open on my computer

Your description is a bit confusing to me.

First, Excel is an application and cannot be edited.

The files created by Excel can be edited.

Second, what happens when you try to open an Excel(*.xls) file(workbook)on
your computer?

Nothing?...error message?

Do you have the Excel application installed on your computer?
