to an external hard drive? I currently have about 40GB of music and about
30GB of pictures stored on my C drive, and just want to store them on an
external hard drive for when I'm away from home?

Thanks for any help given.

Get an external drive that will connect both by USB2 and firewire
cables, if possible, to allow you to connect to the widest variety of
computers. The external drive may have to be formatted the first time
it is connected to a computer. Instructions for doing so should come
with the drive or be available online.

Once the drive is formatted, you just plug it into a USB2 or firewire
connection of your computer. Then the computer will automatically
detect that there is another drive, that it may call F. Then go to a
single file or whole directory of files and copy them just as you would
copy them to another file on your C drive, except select the F drive,
or whatever the computer calls it. When you connect to another computer
to play back your music, that computer may call the external drive by
another name, perhaps G, especially if F is taken.
