How do I synchronize Outlook 2003 pst files & settings on 2 comput

In Outlook 2000 there was a Microsoft KB that described how to synchronize
outlook pst files and settings on two different computers (not a
PDA/CE/Active Synch)

I use an external drive with my laptop when travelling, and can
export/backup the pst file to it, but cant figure out what settings files to
transfer so the settings in the external drive/laptop will be the same...

Andreas,

Thanks, I'd forgotten about Slipstick.
It was helpful, however, using a tool called Laplink, I can easily
synchronize the pst file, as well as export it to the external drive, and
then access the external drive file when it is connected to the laptop.

I guess the core of my problem is being able to save, restore and/or
transfer the rest of the outlook settings. Things like the window
customization, junk mail rules, ISP settings, and other data that I have
customized on my desktop.

I recently had a root/C: drive failure, and although I had all of my data
files backed up on a second hard drive, I had to reload all of the software,
and go through the excruciating process of resetting all my outlook custom
settings. This would have been a bit simpler if there was a way to backup
and restorre those settings the same as we can back up the outlook .pst files.

I have little luck with MS Restore and wouldn't trust it with my data.

I now use Norton Ghost, which may prove a bit more helpful if another C:
drive crash comes along.

I'll keep plugging away at the problem and probably reach some sort of
compromise.

Checked out your website, -- nice.

Hi Richard,

If you have Windows XP, you can try the file and settings transfer wizard,
You should be able to copy your settings only.
Start > All Programs > Acccessories > System Tools

Hope this helps

Lee,

Thanks,

I did explore using the settings transfer wizard, and with some detailed
manual intervention was able to transfer some of my outlook settings.

Unfortunately, the default list, while helpful, includes Outlook Express,
but not Outlook itself.

Will know more when I try to transfer those settings to my laptop.

Lee,

Thanks for the info. The reference was useful, and provided needed insight
into how the "save files and settings" feature works.

Cheers
Richard
