How do I suppress the tabs that appear wtih Bullets and Numbers?

When you use the Bullets or Numbering icons on the Formatting Toolbar (or use
Bullets and Numbering from the Format Menu), a hanging indent is inserted on
the Ruler as well as a tab character. i want to prevent the tab character
from appearing. Thanks.

In the Format | Bullets and Numbering dialog, you have options as to the
character that follows the bullet (including "nothing") only if you create
the bulleted style on the Outline Numbering tab (click More to expand the
dialog); this option is not available for simple numbered and bulleted
lists.

Thank you Suzanne. What about this:
From the Tools Menu, Select Options; click on the Compatibility Tab and
check off "Don't add automatic tab stop for hanging indent." Will that do
the trick?
Thanks,
Joseph

No, that just suppresses the tab stop, not the tab character.
