How do I stop Outlook calendar reminders of newly entered past ev.

I use the calendar to post journal entries of my time, work accomplished,
daily activities. When I enter a new event that is in the past I am always
immediately presented with a reminder of an overdue appointment. I would
like to keep the reminder feature turned on for upcomming events, but would
like it to eliminate reminders of newly entered past events. Any suggestions?

YOu must uncheck them manually. There is no option for selection of which
items get reminders.

After furious head scratching, Mitch Hilger asked:
