How do I stop new docs from opening w/ cursor in the header?

Every time I open Word, the cursor is in the header. I then have to go into
header/footer and hit close in order to start typing my document. It didn't
use to default to this, and I can't seem to find a way to change it back.
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect that the insertion point is not actually in the header. Do you see
a dashed-line border that says "Header"? If not, then you are not in the
header. When you type in the document and then View | Header and Footer, is
that text in the header? See
