How do I start Minimized?

R

RScotti

Hi,
I selected Minimize in Properties in both the Startup Folder and on my Desktop and yet SOME of the
programs still startup as Maximize. They are: Forte Agent Version 4.0/32.1071, IE 6.0 and Windows
Explorer. How do I correct this?
I am using HP OEM Windows XP Media Center, 2005 Edition and I have Three startup folders with
programs in them.:

In my startup folder C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
I have just IExplore.exe and Norton System Doctor

In my startup folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
I have Agent 4.0 , MS Office, Windows Explorer, Updates from HP and WD Backup Monitor.

In my startup Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
I have: Pin (Don't even know what that is?)

With the exception of those three they all either go to the little icons on the right of the Task
Bar NOT Quick Launch on the left or run in the background.
The MS Office (Word 2000) does not seem to be running but I have three different versions,2000,2003
and Beta 2007.
Have a good day,

You have to do this to the program shortcuts, not the folders.

1. Right-click the program you want to start as a taskbar button.
2. Click Properties, and then click the Shortcut tab.
3. In the Run list, click Minimized if you want the program to open as a
taskbar button.

Run:
[[Specifies how you want the window to display this item when you open the
shortcut: in a standard window, in a full screen (maximized), or as a button
on the taskbar (minimized).]]

If they run in the background, generally those items are running as a
service.

That’s because most of these processes – including most services – run in a
hidden window. This is how Task Manager determines the processes that appear
on the Applications tab. If you can see the window in which the process is
running, then it shows up as an application. If you can’t see the window,
then it doesn’t show up as an application.

Sorry I said it wrong. I did do the programs. What I meant was I put them in the startup folder in
the start menu than selected the proprieties in both the Startup and desktop Programs.

Double check your settings just in case you hit the Cancel button instead of
Apply or OK. We have all made that mistake.

Hi Wesley,
Thanks for responding.
I checked again and it is set to minimized so I checked the others that were in the Taskbar on the
right. Little Icons don't know the name of these and they are on Normal so I changed Agent and
Windows Explorer to Normal went to log off/on But they still opened up Maximized.
Something is wrong but don't know what?
Maybe it's in the Registry?

Hello

You or someone else then must have stretched the window open when it was set to minimized. Do the reverse and stretch it closed to your liking.

Hi Daphne,

How do you resize it to Minimized? That's what I want them at.

Hello

1st I would set the Run Box to Normal. Then I would grab the bottom right corner of the box and close it to approximately the Normal size. After that is done and only after that I would change it to Minimized. See if that will work

Hi Daphne,
On Agent it opened in Normal window after I did what you said because it was Maximized. The
minimize window still came back as Normal.

In Windows Explorer it still came back as Full and the maximized was being used as the default when
I went to normal than minimized it didn't go there from startup.

IE 6 did also come back in full but I have a program that is probably making that happen: Autosizer.

Hi Daphne,

I fixed it. I used Autosizer on all three and now all three are minimized.
Thanks for your help on this.

Windows remembers the size that a window was when it was last closed and
will open it at that size the next time that it is opened.
