How do I send a word doc with graphics in Outlook?

I have seen word documents with graphics come through my outlook, and others
see the same with other mail servers. However, when I try to create a word
document with graphics, send it through My Outlook, those same people with
the other mail servers that see the grapics from other senders, cannot see
the graphics on mine. Is there something I need to turn on? A setting of
some sort? I have been very perplexed over this.

Sending it as an attachment? Then Outlook doesn't touch it as the images are
contained in the Word document.
