how do I save images locally from a webpage with external refs

I am trying to save a copy of a webpage from a friend who wants me to redo
their page. I am wanting to save a copy (accessed/edited from the web) in
frontpage and then to save the images locally so that the image src is local
not referenced to the site off the web.

ie. so I don't have to lookup up each image on the webpage and save it to my
computer. Frontpage sometimes saves the images when saving a page but I
can't work out how to force it to save those images from the webpage to my
computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If your "friend" wants you to edit his/her website, any particular reason
why they don't give you the user name and password so you can publish the
whole thing to your computer and then work on it there??

you sound suspicious ... they are not very computer lit and I simply wanted
to be able to pull down the whole page and graphics in one go instead of
doing it manually and going through the hassle of finding out all the details
etc. Simple as that.

I've done it before in Frontpage and can't work out how to force it save the
images locally.

I must admit I'm a skeptic.

With the page open in a IE, File > Save as

However, having access to the site would make your life a whole lot easier.

all they gotta do is give you two words...username & password, how computer
literate do they have to be to do that?

If they're not capable of that I guess you could just open it with FP and go
from there...much more time consuming though.

thanks for your responses. That'd be easy if they could actually remember it
- save having to go to the host etc.

Anyway, that's my problem ... but I thought I'd just let you know that
simply choosing SAVE AS doesn't save the images.

sure it does, but only the ones being displayed

it saves the .html page but leaves all the original image references to the
web in tact and doesn't ask to save the images locally.

Open the page in Internet Explorer, not FrontPage, then in IE use
File->Save As. This will save the entire web page, images, external
CSS and JavaScript to wherever you tell it to be saved.
Them import the lot into a web in FrontPage.

But without the userid and password, how are you going to upload the
edited pages back to the site?

Hi Ronx

Thank you!

Ps. We are moving the website somewhere else. Thanks for your help
