During a hard drive crisis two months ago, I exported my Outlook mail folders
in .pst files to CD. I now can't get them to open. Advice welcome!

Advice: tell us why you can't open them and what you've tried.
Assumption: you already know that files on a CD are read only and Outlook
requires read/write access. Move the PST file to a hard drive and remove the
read only attribute.

Outlook needs PST files to be writable in order to open them. Copy the PST
file to your hard disk and turn off the read-only attribute on it.

I have tried this repeatedly and it keeps telling the file cannot be found.
What else can I try?

Tried what? Describe EXACTLY what steps you take to try to open the backup.
