How do I restore outlook 2002 data saved on a CD?

I have backed up my outlook 2002 data files and archive onto a CD before
replacing my hard drive. Now I am trying to import this data back into my
computer. I am using the import/export menu. When I try to open the item on
the CD to import it, I get a message saying "You do not have the permission
required to access the file D:\Outlook.pst".
Should I be doing something different?

Yes. First of all, Outlook cannot use a read-only .PST file; it needs write
access. Copy the file to your hard drive and make sure it's not marked
read-only. Second, don't import -- just open the file in Outlook via File |
Open | Outlook Data File. Importing may cause you to lose data and it's
totally unnecessary since .PST is Outlook's native file format.

Thank you for your reply.
I tried copying the files on the CD to My Documents. I am getting an error
window:
"Error copying file or folder. Cannot copy Outlook (or Archive): Data error
(cyclic redundancy check)".

The cyclic redundancy check error is usually indicative of a hard drive
problem. You might want to try running scandisk or chkdisk on your hard
drive to check for errors. and run a defrag as well.

Thank you for your prompt replies. I appreciate your help.
I ran a chkdsk which I assumed resulted in no errors because as soon as it
was complete, Windows XP immediately started up. I also ran a defrag. I
received the same error when trying to copy the files from the cd to the hard
drive. Incidentally, the reason why I backed this stuff up in the first
place was to replace a defective hard drive. The hard drive I have now was
replaced under warranty by Dell.
The back up CD has the following files
Archive-213 Mb
Backup-4.21 Mb
Extend-1.84 kb
Outlook-91.5 Mb
Outlookhttp.www.comcast.n00000004-48kb
I assume I am trying to restore the Outlook material for my calendar,
e-mail, contacts, etc.

I read the article. Thanks for doing the research.
I happened to have a prior backup disc that I tried and it worked! I guess
the first cd is corrupt. I'll have to play with that. I may have to check
out that CDCheck3 program.
I now have my backed up stuff (most importantly my contacts) in a Personal
Folders below my Outlook Today Personal Folders. I think all I have to do
now is import the saved contacts into the main Contacts section.

Glad I could help :-) You should just be able to copy or move the contacts
from one folder to the other. Open the contacts folder on the second .PST,
switch to an unfiltered table view like By Category, select all your contacts
(CTRL+A) and right-click and drag them to the new Contacts folder. Select
either Copy or Move from the context menu that will pop up.

I did highlight and then drag the contents of the restored items to my main
folders. I am up and running! I'm glad you're around to help!

hey mate:i just re-did my pc and i did an outlook 2002 .pst backup to a
cd.how do i get this back-up back into outlook?i've tried many ways to no
avail.
