How do I resolve the shoppy DVD sound problem?

Hello:

I am home windows XP professional, AMD 2200 with 512 MB of RAM.

I just installed Nero and finally got the codec to run DVDs on the
computer.

However, I am discovering that the sound is quite choppy. I tried
Windows media player, InterActual as well as Nero itself. I also
looked at the archives of the Usenet groups/wEB discussion groups and
adopted some of the recommendations. For example, I stopped the screen
saver, stopped my virus checker, etc. however, none of these helped.

One suggestion was saying that DMA should be checked. I could not find
any area to be checked all my DVD player's hardware screens. Perhaps
this does not apply in the case of a computer running XP professional.

What else should I look into?

Check in System Properties for the OS.

To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager

1.


Open Device Manager.

2.


Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the
list of controllers and channels.

3.


Right-click the icon for the channel to which
the device is connected, select Properties, and
then click the Advanced Settings tab.

4.


In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down
box, select DMA if Available if the
current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA
if Available" but the current transfer
mode is PIO, then the user must toggle
the settings. That is:
•

Change the selection from "DMA if
available" to PIO only, and click OK.
•

Then repeat the steps above to change
the selection to DMA if Available.
