Hi: I would like to replace my existing C drive (which has Windows installed
on it) with a larger, faster hard drive. So would like to basically move
everything onto the new drive

Does anyone know of a step-by-step instructions on the web?

thanks

Buy your new disk and cloning utility, Acronis True Image is the best.
Install Acronis in your existing system and follow the instructions for
cloning the existing drive to a new one.

will check it out thanks
actually, I have a second hard drive now, on which I have programs and data
files, on the C drive I only have the operating system on it

If you buy a retail hard drive, a utility will come with it to do
exactly what you want. If you buy whitebox, you can download the disk
copy utility from the hard drive mftr.'s website.

Basically, you will put the new hard drive in as slave, leaving the old
one in the master position. Boot with the utility and follow the
directions to copy the drive. Then you'll shut down and move the new
drive to the master position. If you want to keep your old drive for
storage, move it to the slave position and format it from within
Windows.

didn't realize new hard drives came with that utility, will look for it
thanks

most "retail" drives will (you know , the ones that come in a nice pretty
box :> )

as stated , most mfr's will have a utility available to do what you want
(western digital for instance ,has a downloadable program)
