I inserted my original windows cd to repair corrupt system files but after
the first reboot, they system never returned to repair the install and the
machine would not start. So I install windows xp pro on a different
partition on the same drive and it now starts perfectly BUT, I would like to
repair my original install and use those profiles and not have to reinstall
all my applications. What is the best way to repair the original profile
and remove the newly installed os on the seperate partition? Thanks.

Could try the repair install again.

Another option is to install XP in same partition but different directory.
then go back and delete faulty xp install. have to install apps and updates
but personal file should still be intact. also, will create another entry in
boot menu.
will have to delete faulty entry. Sometimes this seems to work better than
repair install.

How would I delete the faulty boot entry?
Will the new install automatically link to the old profiles? Is that
possible?
Thanks.

Hopefull!

You will have to edit the boot.ini file. I can explain that later.

The user profile I'm not totally sure about. What you should do is make
sure you use the same username as original install. Also, it it ask for
computer or network, workgroup, etc make sure you use same for that also.

other installs from my system and boot.ini? Thanks.
