How do I remove a reference to a dead server in my AD Domain Controllers object?

We had a primary WIndows 2000 server crash. Fortunately we were able
to move the FSMO roles to another server before it completely died but
now I'm getting all these errors in the File Replication Service Event
log referring not being able to connect to the old server.

I located the server in the AD Users and COmputers but I cannot delete
this reference.

How can I remove reference to this no longer existing server? I'm
trying to install a new (Windows 2003 server) box and I cannot
successfully run ADPREP /FORESTPREP (I keep getting error 0x57) and I
believe that this has something to do with it.

I took the MS article on this but it was partial. I fould a second
article that also reminded me that I had to remove the server from
Sites and I had a particularly difficult time removing the referece to
the server in ADUC's Domain Controllers so I went through moving ALL 5
FSMO roles using NTDSUTIL and by golly that did the trick.

It has been a long time since I've used NTDSUTIL but that fixed
(completely) the problem. The SCHEMA MASTER roll was keeping us from
upgrading the AD to 2003. Now we were able to add our new 2003 server
to the domain.

THanks for all the help!
