How do I reinstall win xp?

I went through and installed linux into my notebook and I now want win xp
back into it when i put the recovery discs in they run and when they go to
reboot it pops up saying kernel error and thats all it does i can reinstall
linux but not winxp what should i do that doesnt include throwing the
notebook out the window

just before the computer reboots, try to press F 8
or you can press F 10 . if that does not work , then either use escape or
F 1 .
