How do I reinstall failed Win2k updates?

I have Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (build 2195)and some
critical updates seem to have failed. However these are not
automatically offered/installed/available in Windows update.

What's the simplest way of re-installing these failed updates?

Belarc Advisor informs that the following updates failed:
SP5
failed verification UPDATE ROLLUP 1 on 8/15/2007
(Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4) Reinstall!

failed verification KB913580 on 8/15/2007 (details...)
Reinstall!

failed verification KB917537 on 8/16/2007 (details...)
Reinstall!

failed verification KB937894 on 12/12/2007 (details...)
Reinstall!

Microsoft update (review your update history) informs that the following
updates failed:

Windows 2000 Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1
Service Pack 1 (KB928366) Saturday, August 18, 2007 Automatic Updates

Windows 2000 Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB924270) Wednesday,
August 15, 2007 Automatic Updates

Note that Belarc and Microsoft each note different failed updates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Tony,

Since the updates are all August 2007 and later, why not see if they are
listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel as a first step ?

What changed on the system in August that could possibly have caused
this ? A new firewall, antivirus, network, etc ?

The .NET update is a separate issue and may require uninstalling .NET
Framework 1.1. Suggest you deal with the other updates first and leave
that for last. You may be able to repair .NET instead of having to
uninstall it.

You could always download the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and
get a 3rd opinion:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...06-B5F9-4DAD-BE9D-7B51EC2E5AC9&displaylang=en

IF running the above confirms Belarc's findings -

You can redownload the updates manually from the MS Update Catalog and
*save* them: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

The Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 is KB891861. Enter the KB# of
the updates in the Search field and add them to the download basket.

You can attempt to install the updates in question on top of the already
installed updates. I would not.
Suggest you uninstall the updates listed by Belarc one at a time,
reboot, then reinstall them one at a time.

IF any of the updates are listed in ARP, then try to uninstall them from
there.
If any of the updates are *not* listed in ARP, then suggest you show
hidden files, folders, and system files. Using Windows Explorer, locate
the $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx$ subfolders in WINNT and use the uninstaller in
that subfolder to uninstall the non-verified updates.

Yes, indeed. Now why can't all this stuff be automatically be taken care
of in Microsoft/Windows update? What percentage of people with similar
problems can afford paying $260 for tech support with Microsoft, or know
about and can deal with newsgroups? It should be an automated thing with
the update.

But again, thanks so much for your help.
