how do i refer to a cross-reference from a sequence i inserted?

i added a numbered sequence using the SEQ field code. I then try to insert a
cross-reference to it, but can't find it in the list of applicable fields.
What's wrong?
 
Cross-references don't target fields. The target can be any of the things in
the 'Reference Type' list. Bookmark the SEQ field, then cross-reference
that.
