Cross reference to SEQ - can?

Is there anyway to cross reference to SEQ field?

I intend to use the SEQ field to number a list of references:
[1] article 1
[2] article 2
....

Am I able to cross refrence to them in the document:
...... [1] reported that ..... and [2] proved that ....

Whenever I update / change (insert, reorder) the reference list, and the SEQ
number changes, I expect the cross reference to be updated accordingly. How
do I do that?

Thanks.

If you use ordinary numbered paragraphs (Format > Bullets and numbering)
rather than SEQ fields it's easy: on the cross-reference dialog select
'Numbered item' from the Reference type list and 'Paragraph number' from the
Insert reference to list.

Is there any reason you particularly need to use SEQ fields? They're not
normally necessary for ordinary paragraphs numbered sequentially. It's
usually simpler is to define a style (eg called Reference) with numbering
applied. To add square brackets to the paragraph number, go to the Customize
tab on the Bullets and Number dialog. These are automatically picked up in
the cross-reference.

I also very interested in referencing SEQ fields as well. In a document
(Word 2000) we have a SEQ field: { SEQ Reference \* ALPHABETIC }. In Word,
under Menu -> Insert -> Cross reference..., a "Reference Type" of "Reference"
appears in the drop-down menu. Selection of that item displays all the
"Reference" fields for selection to cross-reference. This is correct, so you
may be wondering what the problem is. Well, this only works on one PC, and
not on another. On the other PC, "Reference" is not displayed in the
"Reference Type" drop down list. Is there a setting or something that makes
user defined references work? Both PC's are running the same OS and version
of Word and appear to have the same Word "Options" selected.
Thanks for any help.
