How do I put a mpg on my site?

With front page 2000 Ive tried to put up a mpg movie on my site. I went to
insert, picture, video then selected my movie and all I get is an "X"
marking the spot where the movie should be. Right clicking properties shows
the right mpg name but it wont work. Any ideas? Also how do I display a
thumbnail of the movie for people to click on?
