How Do I Prevent Automatic Inbox Checks?

I'm using Outlook 2003, and I do NOT have a POP3 mailbox, but I do have a
mail server for outgoing mail. When I try to leave inbox empty it refuses
to save the mail account at all. If I enter a fake inbox name, it then
tries to check that and reports an error every few minutes.

With Outlook Express 6 there is an option to disable automatic checking.
Is there any way to do the same with Outlook 2003?

Have you tried to reconfigure the default send/receive group according to
your needs? (Start Outlook 2003 and then select CTRL + ALT + S to bring up
the send/receive settings dialog.)

use mail as the server name and got to tools, send/receive settings.. find
the option to define the settings to not check it for new mail.
