How do I permanently cancel a sending task in Outlook?

I received an e-mail that asked me if it could send a read receipt to the
sender. I said that it could. The e-mail account from which I received the
e-mail is not able to send any e-mails, so the sending task had an error. I
have canceled this task dozens of times, but it continues to try to send the
read receipt every two minutes. How do I permanently cancel this task?

Choose Work Offline from the File drop down menu. Copy and
paste the content of the message to the clipboard (if
important). Delete the message. Go to the Deleted Messages
folder and again delete the message. Open a new message to
yourself and paste the contents. Close Outlook and then
open again.

The problem I'm having is that there is no actual message. No messages appear
in my Outbox and I din't write any e-mail. I just said yes to a popup that
asked if it could send a read receipt.
