Word 2003: Tools | Options, Security tab. Clear the "Make hidden markup
visible when opening or saving" option. Click OK.
Word 2007: Office button | Word Options, Trust Center. Click the Trust
Center Settings button. In the Privacy Options category, clear the "Make
hidden markup visible when opening or saving" option. Click OK twice.
When "Make hidden markup visible..." is cleared, Word no longer forces the
display of markup as you open or save a document which is being tracked for
changes.
Note that clearing the option isn't recommended, though, beacuse you might
then inadvertently send the document to someone, not realizing that the
markup is still there.
