I created a simple word file on a computer at a different location. When I
try to open this CD on my home computer I get the message that it con not be
opened because I do not have access privilede. both locations have MS word
2000 but the work location is running windows 98 while my home is windows xp
for home use

When you open a word document, a temporary file is created in the same
folder that the document is contained within. When you attempt to
open a document from a CD, word can not make the temporary file on the
cd because word does not write to cd's (generally).

So, you might try coping the file from the CD to the desktop and see
if you can open it from there.
