How do I network 2 machines

I have 2 Dell machines, 1 running XP Pr the other XP home. I have connected
them together using the ethernet ports connected with a utp crossover cable.
The XP Pro machine has a modem connection to the net which I want to share
and a printer. After running the Network Wizard on the Pro machine and
creating a network disk which Ithen run on the Home machine, they still dont
see each other. They seem to know they are connected as when I unplug the
cable it says the network is dissconnected, also in the connection window
both machines are sending data but not receiving. What have I done wrong?

Are they in the same workgroup? Have you shared resources on either or both?

As they are both versions of XP you did not have to make a disk on the Pro
machine to setup the Home machine. Just run the wizard each has - not
problem. (The disk is needed for Windows 95, 98, SE. ME etc.)

For something that simple it's probably easiest to open your network
properties, click on TCP/IP and select properties, set the XP Pro to
198.162.0.1 and the other one to get the IP address automatically. After you
have added the IP address mouse down and click in the subnet box and it will
automatically fill that in for you. Beyond that you should be all set. Make
sure that you set the Pro machine to P2P networking is pretty easy and fun
to learn on but you'll find you're better off with a router really. A good
place to poke around is www.practicallynetworked.com for more information.
