How do I move text when I track changes?

I track changes a lot when updating documents and I find it very useful.
Unfortunately, when I relocate a block of text it shows it as being deleted
and inserted instead of just being moved. This is very annoying when I am
restructuring a document and only making minor procedural changes. I tried
highlighting and dragging the text but it does the same thing. Is there any
way to indicate a relocation of text?

I think newer versions of Word do this for you, but not in older versions. My
recommendation:
- turn track changes off (Ctrl+Shift+E)
- CUT the text
- turn track changes back on (Ctrl+Shift+E)
- PASTE the text in the new location

Cindy, thank you for your help. I am using Word 2003 at work. Your
suggestion would eliminate the problem of having it all in there twice, but
it still shows up as an insertion. When distributing the document to
employees for approvals it would be easier for them to be able to see that it
is the same thing they read last time and not something new. We also make
change suggestions through e-mail instead of in person and this can get
confusing. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to do this. It
seems like it would be a simple addition to the track changes feature, but
that is my opinion. I was wondering if anyone else had dealt with this
before.

I'm sure that's why it has been changed in newer versions :-)

To make it clear what's happening, you could add a comment to the "inserted"
range of text to make it clear.
