I have tried to email a PPS with a music file (WMA) attached but it will not
work. The WMA file and the PPS file are in the same folder. How do I get it
to link or embed into the file. I tried to copy and paste special but that
didn't work either.

Help please

WMA may be protected by Digital Rights Management.
You can only embed the music into the presentation if it is in wav format.
If you are using other format, you can also try to convert the music into wav
format using sound convertor (Do a search for "wma to wav" in google.com for
convertors.)

Read about how to embed wav format into the presentation:

I just tried convering the file to a WAV. Not a problem. I then linked the
file to the PPS and sent it via Email. No luck, no sound went through. Any
other ideas?

Do I need to embed the file? By inserting the file from my music file, I can
see how this would not work. I did put the Wav file and the PPS file together
in a folder and from there emailed it.

What could I be doing wrong. I know that music is sent in Christmas PPS all
the time so I should be able to do it.

Help Thanks!

Delete the sound first.
Then,
Choose Tools, Options and go to the General tab.
Set the value next to "Link sounds with file size greater than" to 50000 kb.
Click OK.
Now, re-insert the wav file. (use Insert, Movies and Sounds, Sound from
File...)
The sounds you re-insert this way and any sounds (with file sizes less than
50000kb or about 50mb) will be embedded into your PPT file, not linked. Your
PPT file will be larger this way, but the sounds won't get lost.

Have you done that?
If it still doesn't work, feel free to send me a copy of the file and sound
to pptheaven[at]gmail[dot]com

Along with what tolhz has suggested, if you file exceeds the max allowed.
You must then send it along with the presentation.

Yes, I did everything and in the proper order. The file ends up being huge
(16MB) T
Due to it's size, I am having trouble trying to send it. It takes forver. I
am testing it back to myself. I will try making a PPS without picutres to
reduce the size and try again.
I will let you know.

Thanks!

I wouldn't jump just that far that quickly. What is the file size of your
music file? Have a look here on reducing your file size.
Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

Hi! I downloaded the program to reduce the file but that doens't seem to
make any difference in the size. Interesting is that when looking at the file
in view details it shows it to be 16,851 KB which is fine but when I view the
size in the email it comes up with 16.4 MB which is huge. The Optimize didn't
reduce it much at all. The file only contains a few picutres and one wav file
as I was just testing this out. I think it would all work if I could get the
file size reduce. The question is why is it so big when really it shouldn't
be.

Any ideas? Help if you can. Thanks!

What is the file size of your music file? Did you look at the other
references in the link to reduce image size.

The music file is 13,465 KB and the total file size is 16,848 KB. That seems
to be fine but when i email it, it then reads 16.4 MB. I find this info on
the bottom of the My documents screen where the file is stored. I also
indicates the same file size in Outlook (16.4 MB) Now, I really find this
strange. Any ideas?

Because you say that the total file size is 16,848kb in size I'm inclined to
believe that your misreading the totals a 13,465kb file is a 13 meg file.
You could try resampling your wav file in a program like audacity to make it
smaller in size

16,848kb and 16.x MB are about the same, or as near as makes no difference. And

You'll need to reduce the size of the sound file and re-insert it in order to

Hi CT
Im having the same problem as you have, just wondering if you had found a sollution yet?
It feels like I tried it all, but nothing works. Feeling very stupid:(
I´ve read in PPtools (http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm) as tolhz suggested and also what the page suggested.
Trying convert the music into wav format using sound convertor(MMConvert). No music appears but it works and I tried link sounds with file size greater than" to 50000 kb but have trouble mailing it.
I would be very happy if you or someone could help me solving this. HELP! :(

Yes, the file needs to be downsized. I went back to the program to convert
the music file to a WAV-ADPCM. There were three choices and I didn't know
which one to pick. This one seems to reduce it the most. It reduced the file
to about 5 MB. It's still faily large. Any ideas on how or what to use to
reduce it more?

We get these Christmas PPS with songs all the time. They don't seem to be
that huge of a file. They have one song playing with various slides. I wonder
how whomever makes these, reduces the file size. It load it no time and I
have forwarded them without problems either. Is there anything else I should
be doing or looking at?
Thanks!

Try reducing the sampling rate and changing it from stereo to mono.
We get these Christmas PPS with songs all the time. They don't seem to be
that huge of a file. They have one song playing with various slides. I wonder
how whomever makes these, reduces the file size. It load it no time and I
have forwarded them without problems either. Is there anything else I should
be doing or looking at?
Thanks!

The music file is 13,465 KB and the total file size is 16,848 KB. That seems
to be fine but when i email it, it then reads 16.4 MB.

16,848kb and 16.x MB are about the same, or as near as makes no difference. And
clearly the sound file accounts for about 13.5 MB of that.

You'll need to reduce the size of the sound file and re-insert it in order to
shrink the PPT.

I find this info on
the bottom of the My documents screen where the file is stored. I also
indicates the same file size in Outlook (16.4 MB) Now, I really find this
strange. Any ideas?

:

What is the file size of your music file? Did you look at the other
references in the link to reduce image size.

Hi! Alot of trial and error and this is what I finally accomplished. First
you need to convert the music file from a MP3 or whichever to a WAV using the
Concerter program. I found that by choosing WAV(ADPCM) From the drop down
menu it actually reduces the file quite a bit more. I made sure the power
point presentation and the music file were put in a seperate folder. Make
sure to insert the music file into the PPT only after you put it in the
seperate folder.

I did manage to email the file but found it still failry large but I guess
it would depend on the music file itsself. I am going to try different songs
to check this out.

After all the trials.....it did finally work!

Thank-you Michael and Steve!
