How do I make the icon in the menu bar flash to notify my boss of.

I have used a previous version wherein when my boss and me sent one another
internal messages the "inbox" icon at the bottom of the screen flashed. I am
now working at a new office and we can't seem to get it to work the same way.
Anyone have any suggestions?
 
It was probably a custom action as Outlook, by default, will only display the
envelope in the system notification tray, not any other icon. Did your
previous office use any Outlook Add-ins?

Tools>Options>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail Options contains the only
choices you have.
