How do I make permanent comments on pictures?

F

Frank Martin

I am using Windows XP

I have numerous photos downloaded from a digital camera in JPG format.

I type descriptions, dates etc in the "Comments" box in the properties menu,
and on the photo itself by using MS Paint.

This works well, but these comments, both on the photo and in the
properties box disappear when the photos are expressed in TIFF format.

Is there a way to put comments on a photo indelibly?

What is the standard procedure for recording comments on digital photos?

Please help, Frank

Why would you want to use TIFF instead of JPG?
There is no reason to do this.
You already put comments on a photo indelibly by using MS Paint.
There is really no standard procedure for recording comments on digital
photos. Many ways to do it.
I would recommend you download the free software:
www.irfanview.com
and download all the plug ins available with it.
To add text, open Irfanview, open the file you want to add text to, click on
the help files, index, text and follow directions. You will see lots of
options. Easier and more versatile than MS Paint.
One more thing. Do not add text on your original photo files. Make a copy of
the original file and then add text to the copy. This way you can always go
back to the original file and change things.
To make a copy, right click on the file (or for a group of files, select
them and then right click on them). After you right click, click on Copy on
the opening menu. Then click on Edit on your top bar and click on Paste.
This will add files in your folder, same name as the original files, but
with the word "Copy of" in front. You then open "Copy of" to add your text
on the photo.

Thanks. The Paint part of Windows has a poor text-entry facility because it
is necessary to guess the size of the text box before adding or pasting the
text.

And then if the text box is too large for the text involved it cant be
reduced in size to fit properly.

What I need is a macro to enter the text in Word2000 and then dump this
onto a photo via Paint for an indelible record.

Also the properties section has a very volatile "comments" attribute in that
it disappears after it is copied into the photo via Paint.

You can enter text in Word, then select the text and copy it to your
clipboard, open the application with your photo and then Paste. Not many
applications will let you do this. Microsoft Digital Image Pro version 9
will let you do it. The text will open on the photo, in a textbox and you
can resize and manipulate the placement of the box. But this would be the
long way to do it. This application will let you add text directly on the
photo. All kinds of options for text and very easy to use. You probably can
get it for about $60.00. I really don't know any free software that will let
you manipulate text so easily. Also this application is a full photo editing
software. So, if you do not have such and plan to work a lot on digital
image it is worth looking into.
