Different photo opens when thumbnail double-clicked

On my sister's PC, one particular folder contains many - but not all - jpg
photos from her digital camera whose thumbnails display the correct photo; in
Preview, it displays the correct photo; but when you double-click on it, it
opens a completely different photo that isn't even in that folder. It's like
the "pointer" that tells Windows what to open is mixed up. Each photo in the
folder has a unique name (number), and each photo that this happens to opens
a different "wrong" photo. I didn't think to check each photo's Properties
when I was visiting her for possible clues. Would anyone have any ideas, or
do you think this folder's contents somehow get corrupt in the process of
copying from the digital camera to the PC. Thanks for your help. Lori S.

Open the image folder in question and
delete the thumbs.db file. If you do not
see the thumbs.db file...open a folder and
go to...Tools / Folder options / View tab...
tick..."Show hidden files and folders"....
Apply / OK.

Here's some info on the file:

What is thumbs.db

If this does not solve the issue...the following
is from a user who had the same problem:

"I copied all the contents of My Pictures to a
folder on the desktop, deleted My Pictures
folder, and created another My Pictures folder.
Copying back from the desktop put the
thumbnails correctly."

Good luck.
