How do I make my default save to Word instead of Word Perfect?

My computer came with Word Perfect (version 12), and I installed Microsoft
Office with Word 2003. I want all my documents as Word, but I cannot figure
out how to make my settings default to save all documents as Word instead of
Word Perfect. I don't want to delete the Word Perfect program just in case I
need it in the future. Please help!

How to re-register Word when problems crop up opening files

should fix it.

Currently Word Perfect owns the "doc" file association. It may reclaim it
when you next run WP. However, whatever Windows Explorer claims the files to
be (based on that association), Word documents will always be Word
documents. They are not magically changing format.
