how do I make excel 2003 my default spreadsheet over ms works spreadsheets

Assuming you have both applications installed on your computer, what type of
files are you attempting to open?

If *.XLS files, Excel 2003 will open them.

If *.wks or *.xlr files, MS Works will open them.

To open these in Excel, save them as *.xls(Excel) files in Works.
