I have several weekly appointments that are going to end in a couple of
months. In most calendar programs, you can make an appointment that recurs
until some date in the future, but in Windows Calendar, I don't see how to do
this. Can someone tell me how? I am running Windows Vista 32 bit.

When you create a new appointment you should see a "Details" window on the
right side. Look under "Appointment Information". There you will see
selections for "Start" and "End". In addition to the "Recurrance" drop-down,
fill in the "End" date.

Okay, I tried that. I put the start date as June 22 and the end date as
September 7th. That made the appointment last continuously from June 22 to
September 7th.

On the recurrence button choose advanced, then select the until option...

Oh...sorry...I did not understand your question. Now I see what you were
asking.
